Cell Culture, Equipment & Media (CCEM)

Ready-made plates and liquid media can be picked up in Room 566A.  Liquid media can be found on the shelf by the main door and plates can be found in the metallic refrigerator nearby by one of the sinks.

 Log Sheet

There is no charge for usage.  However, you are required to sign the log sheet (located next to each item) indicating amount taken, your name and your lab affiliation. This is the only method by which we can monitor changes in consumption and make adjustments to production and/or ordering as need be.

Dry Ice / Liquid Nitrogen

Dry ice and liquid nitrogen are also in stock for use; both can be found in Room 547. Look for the dry ice chest in the cold room.  Please note that the tank in use needs to be finished before starting the backup tank.

Restriction Enzymes

Please visit this page for a list of available enzymes. Anyone who requires any of these enzymes is urged to contact Alyna Dale with your request.  The core purchases an endonuclease only if an investigator needs a small quantity of a particular enzyme, i.e., less than the minimum quantity available from a commercial vendor. Accordingly, the core distributes the amount the individual investigator needs, and saves the rest in the core for possible use by other investigators. Large quantities (i.e., an amount that would exhaust a commercially available aliquot) of any endonuclease must be purchased by an investigator using her/his own research funds. Large quantities of endonucleases (i.e., amounts that exceed the smallest commercially available aliquot) must be purchased by an investigator using her/his own research funds.

Tissue Culture

Please visit the Tissue Culture page for information on facility usage.

Equipment

The Cell & Media module maintains the following instruments for common use: ultracentrifuge, tabletop ultracentrifuge, preparative centrifuge, refrigerated microcentrifuge, phosphorimager, densitometer, PCR machines, spectrophotometer, x-ray film processor, shaker incubator, incubator, scintillation counter, Odyssey Infrared Imaging System. Please contact Alyna Dale at the time of first use and remember to sign the usage log sheets. In addition, space in the Core ultra low freezer can be reserved to assist in defrosting of laboratory freezers. There is no charge for equipment usage.
